West FC Challenge Cup - 8 a side Tournament

 

Date: Sunday 3rd June

Meet time: Registration is between 11am and 11.30am. The tournament is expected to start promptly so please be there by 11.30am at the very latest.

End time: Usually around 4/4.30pm if we get into the final stages (if not, earlier)

Venue: Market Road Astro football pitch, Market Road, London N7

Nearest tube: Caledonian Road (Piccadilly Line)

Kit: Kits will be provided for each team. Please bring your own shin pads and astro boots (trainers might be acceptable if they have grip).

Safety: No jewellery is allowed.

Tournament fee: £8 per player.

Squad: 11 players maximum per team

Rules: West End FC Challenge Cup

1)   All games will be played according to the FIFA 11 a side rule with exception to the off side rule and no slid tackling.
 
2)   Referee’s decision is final
 
3)   Violent conduct from players or supporters of any team will be thrown out of the tournament and loss their entry fees.
 
4)   All players must be registered and can only play for that team.
 
5)   All players must 16 and over.
 
6)   Roll on roll off subs
 
7)   Matches will be 10 minutes long.
 
8)   In the event of a draw at the knock out stage the game will be decided on penalties
 
9)   Penalty kicks will be one step.
 
10) Red/Yellow card will be used, Red Card means you will miss the next game.
 
10) Only the eight players on the field of play at the end of the
      game will be eligible to take penalties.
 
11) Each team will have 3 penalties and then will move into 
       sudden death.
 
12)Top 2 team will qualify for the knock out stage.
 
As the organiser we reserve the right to amend rules and regulation without prior notice.

Social: There will be a social at James' place afterwards with some food and an opportunity to take part in the jubilee celebrations.

 

YORKSHIRE TOURNAMENT 2012

Yorkshire Terriers are hosting their annual 5 a side tournament on the weekend of Saturday 10 / Sunday 11^th March 2012 in Leeds and we are inviting all GFSN and associate teams to take part at this well attended weekend!!!!!!!

With the weekend quickly upon us I would just like to update everyone on the plans for this weekends social and football tournament. Currently we have over 30 teams competing with a few still to confirm so it looks like its going to be another fantastic opportunity to make some new links, have a cracking night out and enjoy a day of football (hopefully in the sun but it is Yorkshire after all)
 
Saturday
  
Managers meeting - As per the GFSN email this will take place at Empire in Leeds at 4pm. The address is 24-32 Bridge End Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 4DJ. For those clubs that are not attending a conference call will be made so please provide a telephone number to the league secretary prior to Saturday. 
 
Evening/ Night out - This year the club has secured exclusive use of Mission 2 in order to get the weekend well on the way. The entrance to Mission 2 is at the side of Viaduct, opposite Fibre on Lower Briggate. The terriers banner will be above the entrance. Could all teams please aim to be in the venue for 8pm where you will be stamped to allow free access to Mission 2 later on in the night, given a raffle ticket to win some fantastic prizes and to hear the promotions/offers we have across other bars on the scene. The all important tournament draw will take place as well so DON'T MISS IT!!!
 
Sunday
 
This year the club has decided to change the venue for our football for several reasons. Firstly we want better facilities for the tournament and secondly making your way to South Leeds stadium from the city centre was always a bit of an unwanted chore on the sunday. Especially with hangovers. :) 
 
So this year the event will be held at Powerleague which is in walk able distance from the city centre. The full address is Wellington Bridge Street, LS3 1LW. Parking at the venue is limited however people in cars can park in the Staples car park by the venue or alternatively there is free parking at the West Street car park, Leeds LS1 4PB which is also very near the venue. 
 
The first football will kick off at 10.30am so please all try and get to the venue for 10am especially those who are up first. Tournament rules/match times etc will be given out on the day but please note the surface is 5th generation 3G so bring suitable footwear. The format will be Group stage/ last 16 / Quarters / Semi's / 3rd/4th Place play off and final. 
 
Post football
 
Knocked out of the football early or made it to the final, either way make your way back to Mission 2 when your football has finished where there'll be a BBQ/Buffet and cheap drinks throughout the day and then once the finals have been played the presentation ceremony will take place including Player of the tournament, runners up medals and awards to the winners. 
 
The terriers will be out long into the night to give everyone a good send off.

Whether you are playing - or not - we strongly encourage you to come along to the Spouters Corner at 4.30pm to join the after match social. Your friends, partners and any other supporters are very welcome to attend both the match and/or the after match social.

Travel: Please note that there are major engineering works on SW Trains this weekend - these primarily affect those coming in on the Reading line / Weybridge via Virginia Water line / Windsor and Eton R'side line / Hounslow loop / Kingston loop, i.e. trains going through stations west of and including Wandsworth Town, but there are knock on effects (e.g. Kingston loop trains coming in via Wimbledon).  There are also extensive closures on the underground including the Northern line's Bank branch being closed all weekend so please check before you travel.

ROMAN EMPERORS WIN THE FORD PRIDE 5-A-SIDE-TOURNAMENT!

Match Report by Sam

Romans entered 3 teams into the Ford Pride Tournament this year having narrowly missed out in the final last year.

Roman Emperors - Captained by Sam, Caesers by Trish  and Conquerors by Leon.
All three were put in different groups. 

From the off, Caesers had a bit of bad luck with 4 players being stuck on the M25, which was closed. (They ended up not being able to make it at all leaving Caesers having to borrow a player every match.)

As the tournament kicked off a lot of teams had to come to terms with tempo the game needed to be played at, as the games were short and the goals quite narrow. It resulted in a lot of the first few matches finishing 0-0.

Caesers first game was a hard fought 0-0, and the conquerors drew their first game. Emperor's first match was looking like going that way until Sam volleyed a strike in from distance with a few minutes to go, getting a 1-0 win.

Emperors took this as a lesson into the next game and pushed from the off. A penalty from Sam and a converted one-on-one from Dylon gave us a 2-0 win to set up a great start with 2 wins out of 2.

The conquerors also won their second game to put them in the driving seat in their group.

However there was a bit of controversy with the Caesers 2nd game. Having played and won 1-0, the referee realised a fixture mix-up had happened and they should have been playing someone else. Rather than working around this and swapping fixtures around, the game  quite controversially was disqualified in favour of being replayed later on.

This replay ended up a 0-0 draw. So Caeser's quite within their rights felt let down as they had essentially been robbed of two points.

This proved to be extremely tough on Caesers as they ended up 3rd in their group on goal difference with 5 points (1 win, 2 draws) Those two points would have seen them through as runners-up.

Roman Emperors won their next two games 2-0 and 1-0 with Sam and Salas on the scoresheets. Massa and Salas did well protecting goalkeeper Dave Simms to finish the group stage without conceding and a 100% record. The conquerors also won their group, knocking out last three years winners Stonewall (who finished 3rd).

Emperors and Conquerors both made their way through the round robin stage. Sam grabbed a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over group A winners Brighton1 and a 1-0 win over Brighton2 was enough to see them to the final. 

Conquerors won their 1st round robin game 3-1 having conceded a penalty. Despite 2 of their players being sin-binned simultaneously for a few minutes they pulled through and then saw through the next game to set up the final with Emperors.The Final. Roman Emperors 0-0 Roman Conquerors. (Emperors won 5-4 on pens)

This was a tight and fiercely fought contest. Emperors started off brightest getting through on goal and having 3 or 4 good shots saved by the conquerors keeper, who played extremely well.

However about halfway through, with Emperors having played most of the tournament with no subs, they began to tire and the conquerors had a good amount of possession with plenty of shots from distance, making keeper Simms work a few times. Dave also pulled out a great one-on-one stop to deny their quick forward. 

Dylan and Sam linked up well and good distribution from Dave in goal meant Emperors had a some great chances on the counter attack to win it, but they just didn't quite fall, most memorably Sam's lob over the keeper came back off the crossbar.

So the match ended 0-0 and went to penalties.

After 3 pens each, all were scored, 3-3. So it was down to the other two on the field Massa and keeper Dave (for the Emperors). Dave (Emperors keeper) struck his into the roof of the net, keeper no chance. Conquerors replied equally.

Massa did the same so it came to the Conquerors 5th penalty to keep them in it.

It was struck well, low and to the right. But Emperors keeper had dived the same way to block it.

Meaning the Emperors won 5-4 on penalties and crowned the winners of the tournament!

Overall it was a fantastic day, in great spirits with free food and travel to the station as well as trophies and presentations. A really enjoyable event.

We would like to invite you to participate in the Refugee Council’sFootball Tournament taking place on Saturday 25th June 2011

Refugee Week is a UK-wide programme of arts, cultural and educationalevents that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, andencourages a better understanding between communities.

This 5-a-side tournament will bring together young people of refugeeand non-refugee background as well as adults from organisationsworking in the sector to raise awareness of refugee issues andencourage community engagement through sport.

The event is organised by the Refugee Council, the leading independenthuman rights charity working with refugees in the UK, in partnershipwith the London Playing Fields Foundation, the leading body for theprotection, provision and promotion of playing fields in London, andis funded through the FA’s Small Sided Football Development Fund.

The tournament is part of the All Nations Football Programme deliveredby The London Playing Fields Foundation since 2001. There will be theopportunity for teams taking part in the tournament to register forthe London Communities Football League (run as part of the programme)which begins in October. This is an 11-a-side weekly league aimed atestablishing new community football clubs and is an excellentintroduction to affiliated football.

There is no cost in entering this tournament but as a charitable eventraising income is also important. We are asked to make a donation tothe Refugee Council, however this is not a pre-requisite for beinginvolved in the event.

As places for teams are limited, please confirm whether you would liketo participate as soon as possible.

From M62 West - exit J27 onto the M621, exit J1 turning right onto the A6110 Leeds Ring Road. At the white Rose shopping centre roundabout after 1 mile, turn left following signs for the City Centre A653 and South Leeds Stadium. After a further mile turn right into Middleton Grove. John Charles Stadium is towards the end of Middleton Grove on the left hand side. Please meet in foyer.

From M1 South and M62 East - follow M1 to J43, and then follow the M621 towards the centre of Leeds exiting at J5. Turn left and follow to the end of the road. Turn left at the T-junction into Dewsbury Road. At the second set of traffic lights turn left into Middleton Grove. John Charles is towards the end of Middleton Grove on the left hand side. Yorkshire Tournament 2005 5-a-side Rules

Teams to consist of a maximum of 8 players, only 5 players from each team on the field at any one time. Rolling substitutions are permitted.

Studded boots or blades cannot be worn, only trainers. Shin-pads are recommended for all players.

Matches are 10 minutes one way

3 points awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw

The tournament will be played in a group format, the top 2 teams in each group proceeding to quarter final knockout stages.

No offside.

No sliding tackles. They will result in an indirect free-kick.

No ball over head height (based upon the judgement of the referee) – an indirect free kick will be awarded against the last team the ball touched before going over head height and from that point.

If the ball goes over head height following a save from the goalkeeper, the ball is returned to the keeper to continue play as per a goal-kick.

No player other than the goalkeeper can deliberately enter the D. If this occurs, a penalty will be awarded. The goalkeeper cannot leave the D, if this occurs a penalty will be awarded.

The nominated penalty taker can take a maximum of one step before striking the ball.

The keeper cannot pick up a deliberate back-pass and the keeper must distribute the ball out of the D within/not keep hold of the ball for more than 6 seconds in any situation. If this occurs, an indirect free-kick will be awarded from the edge of the D nearest to where the offence occurred.

After a goal has been scored, the re-start will occur from the centre spot.

The keeper cannot pick up a deliberate back-pass and the keeper must distribute the ball out of the D within/not keep hold of the ball for more than 6 seconds in any situation. If this occurs, an indirect free-kick will be awarded from the edge of the D nearest to where the offence occurred.

After a goal has been scored, the re-start will occur from the centre spot.

In the event of a draw at the end of normal time in either the Semis or Final, it will be decided by penalties (time allowing). The penalties will be taken by the 5 people on the pitch at the close of play, and if still level at the end of 5 penalties, it will move on to the substitutes. The sequence will be repeated as necessary. The penalties will be taken from the centre of the edge of the D, and a two-step run-up is allowed but no more.

All the additional regular rules of 11-a-side football apply. Any disputes that occur on the day will be decided by the Referee.

This tournament is supported voluntarily and respect must be given at all times to officials and support members.
