Player Profiles
For a list of player profiles see the Romans Players category.
History
Our team is named after the Great Roman Empire which was one of the largest in history and lasted for 500 years.
Prior to the Roman invasion in 43AD, the Roman advance was halted by the River Thames (north/south divide!) and Commander Plautius was forced to build a bridge (very near to where modern London Bridge is now). The Roman bridge proved a convenient central point for the new network of roads which soon spread out like a fan from the crossing place and allowed the speedy movement of troops.
London Romans was formed in June 2006 and it was initially founded and managed by Leo Minnion and Graham Megennis. Since the autumn of 2007 the General Manager is currently Beyz. We have in the past trained at both Finsbury Park and Groveland’s Park.
We currently train on : Sundays 11-a-side
Sundays from around 2:00pm at Finsbury Park (Google Map: click here).
Finsbury Park is served by several Manor House (Piccadilly Line) and Finsbury Park (Piccadilly Line/Victoria Line/National Rail) and also the 29 and 141 buses stop outside the park.
For latest training and game schedules, please see our fixtures page.
We have signed up to the London Unity Football League (LUFL) 2007/08/09 in which we compete against other teams based in London. In addition, we also play regular friendly matches and tournaments with other friendly teams up and down the country. We won the 11 a side London Titans FC Tournament in 2006, please see our results page.
“Having recently joined the Romans, I can truly say that I’ve never met such an open-minded, friendly and sociable bunch of people. The fantastic spirit of the team is reflected in the way that we play. I can only see good things in the future for the team. I have also made some great friends on the team and we regular organise various socials out and about.” says Kire Jordanoski who is one of the talented players that joined London Romans FC this season.
Subs
Subs for London Roman is £2 per week for training sessions but for matches it varies. This goes towards paying for referees, ground fees, insurance, equipment (balls/pumps) and website fees. London Romans is a non profit team and all funds are invested in the team.
